Scouts BSA Camporee: Exploration & Geocaching Merit Badge Combo
Join troops from all over the northeast and beyond for an exciting Merit Badge weekend!
On Saturday, earn the Exploration Merit Badge. Dive into discovery by learning about the history of speleology, the study of caves, cave exploration, research, and conservation. Scouts plan and carry out their own scientific expedition in the cave, performing experiments and analyzing the data following the experience.
All participants will explore the caverns on a guided Blacklight Adventure tour Saturday evening.
On Sunday, engage in a fun outdoor activity that promotes the ideals of Leave No Trace principles with the Geocaching Merit Badge. Scouts will learn to operate a handheld GPS unit, set coordinates, and find waypoints. They will use teamwork and games to discuss map-making, geocaching lingo, safety, and rules. Scouts will also get practice using a map and compass. A scout-centered geocache hunt awaits at the end of the day. Each scout makes a CITO craft to use in their own geocaching adventures.
All workshops taught by registered Merit Badge Counselors and all Merit Badge requirements for each badge are complete by the end of the event. Primitive camping and lunches included.
