Earth Rocks Adventure

Delve into earth’s mineral treasures. Scouts will perform several experiments, examine maps, and learn about how we use rocks & minerals in our daily lives. Plus, take a tour of an incredible geological feature – the cave!  The program also includes  'An Introduction to Speleology'' pre-tour program and a special interpretive tour of the caverns.  All boys receive rock & mineral specimens to take home.

Overnight lodging/camping is available the night prior to your program to Webelos dens traveling a distance to Lincoln Caverns.

Science Everywhere NOVA Award (with Webelos Earth Rocks or Wolf Digging in the Past Adventure)

Experiment with the scientific method! Discover the water cycle and learn how our water is filtered. Experiments inside of the cave, teach scouts about how caverns are formed, and the delicate habitats found within. The add-on program allows Webelos or Wolves to complete their Science Everywhere NOVA Award.  This program emphasizes science in the world around us - especially underground!  This program includes an evening video to watch and reflect on.

Down & Dirty NOVA Award (with Webelos Earth Rocks or Wolf Digging in the Past Adventure)

Discover how the above ground and underground habitats are connected. Learn about bat species living in your neighborhood and explore why they may use different kinds of trees. Discover what other animals live there and make their homes in cavern habitats. This add-on program allows Wolves or Webelos to complete their Down & Dirty Nova Award. This program emphasizes the connections and interactions in our world between habitats, geology, and ecology.   This program includes an evening video to watch and reflect on.

Junior Cave Explorer Patch Program

Discover fascinating facts about creatures inhabiting cave systems. Learn about adaptations and how these animals depend on each other for survival. Then, learn some ‘caving basics’ and great caver crawls with Lincoln Caverns’ caver’s squeezebox!  Lincoln Caverns presents an educational and fun-filled adventure just for Cub Scouts & Youth Groups through age 12. The 5 1/2 hour program features two hands-on cave workshops conducted by experienced staff specially trained to work with young children plus 'An Introduction to Speleology' pre-tour program and a special interpretive tour of the caverns!

 Going Batty Patch Program


Learn which bat species live in your neighborhood. Be active with an exciting bat game. Bat anatomy, bat myths, and bat benefits are discussed. Scouts will make a poster about how we can be great neighbors to bats! Each pack will build a bat house to put up in their community!  Bears participating in the Going Batty Patch program will complete requirements 1, 2, and 3 of Baloo The Builder. Webelos participating in Going Batty will complete requirements 1, 2, 3, and 4 of Build It. A pre-tour program 'An Introduction to Speleology' and a guided interpretive tour of the caves is included in this program.

*Cub Scout and Webelos Combo Two Day Programs

For Cub Packs with a zeal for learning, there is a combination of the Junior Cave Explorer Patch Program plus one of the four programs we offer at the Cub Scout level. This program will include five 45 minute workshops (6 for Earth Rocks). Introduction to Speleology pre-tour program and Cavern Tour, plus time for lunch and gift shop breaks.

Bring your sleeping bags and spend the night in heated/air-conditioned comfort upstairs in our learning center. There is room to sleep up to 60 people. Restroom facilities are located in our Visitors' Center wing and refrigeration is available. Coffee maker and TV with VCR on site. Indoor lodging available for one night only: during your program.

OR

March thru November: Enjoy primitive camping in our new group campground atop Warrior Ridge. Private, level sites in wooded areas adjoining a large field for group activities. At each group site porta-johns, fire rings, picnic tables, water for putting out fires, and trash barrels are provided. Drinking water must be carried from the Visitors Center. Firewood and ice is available for a small fee. Easy access from Route 22 via a gravel road. Stay as long as you like: primitive camping nights unlimited.

A two-day option with lodging elsewhere is also available.

Earth Rocks Event Days for Webelos

Join Webelos from all over Pennsylvania and surrounding states for a fun-filled day! There is no minimum fee or number of persons to participate in these pre-scheduled dates. Ideal for small Webelos dens! Participation is limited to Webelos and their leaders and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Pre-registration is required.
