Girl Scout Junior Programs

Geology Rocks Patch

Rock your girl power with a geoscience adventure! Girls will perform rock experiments, examine fossil samples, make a fossil, and engage in experiments about soil and groundwater conservation. The six hour program features three hands-on Geology workshops conducted by our experienced staff plus 'An Introduction to Speleology' pre-tour program, and a special interpretive tour of the caverns. All girls receive mineral & fossil specimens to take home.

 Animal Habitats Badge

Focus on cave habitats and endangered species! Games and activities teach girls about the importance of saving fragile cavern ecosystems and the animals that live there. Each troop will build a bat house to put up in their community.  The six hour program features three workshops with games, activities and hands-on participation and a special interpretive tour of the caverns.

 Geocacher Badge


Get outside with geocaching games! Girls will experience a geocaching adventure designed just for Scouts! Learn to use a GPS unit, make a Travel Bug, and play a game of bingo to learn the vocabulary of geocaching. This is a rain or shine event, so please be prepared with outdoor all-weather gear. This six hour program includes fun 'treasure' hunting activities for participants and a special interpretive tour of two crystal caverns.

 Going Batty Patch

Girl Scouts will have a blast with this exciting new program all about bats!  Girls will learn about local bat species, discover the truth about common bat myths, and find out how we can all be better neighbors to our insectivorous friends - the bats!  Each girl will create a poster to inform members of their community on the importance of bats and make a bat craft out of recycled materials.  Each troop will build a bat house to put up in their neighborhood.

Junior Cave Explorer Patch

 

Discover fascinating facts about creatures inhabiting cave systems. Learn about adaptations and how these animals depend on each other for survival. Then, learn some ‘caving basics’ and great caver crawls with Lincoln Caverns’ caver’s squeezebox!  The 5 1/2 hour program features three hands-on cave workshops conducted by experienced staff specially trained to work with young children.  'An Introduction to Speleology' pre-tour program, a special interpretive tour of the caverns are also included.

  • Junior Cave Explorer Workshop, featuring a squeezebox crawl, simulated caving adventure!

Bring your sleeping bags and spend the night in heated/air-conditioned comfort upstairs in our learning center. There is room to sleep up to 60 people. Restroom facilities are located in our Visitors' Center wing and refrigeration is available. Coffee maker and TV with VCR on site. Indoor lodging available for one night only: during your program.

March thru November:

 Enjoy primitive camping in our new group campground atop Warrior Ridge. Private, level sites in wooded areas adjoining a large field for group activities. At each group site porta-johns, fire rings, picnic tables, water for putting out fires, and trash barrels are provided. Drinking water must be carried from the Visitors Center. Firewood is available for a small fee. Easy access from Route 22 via a gravel road. Stay as long as you like: primitive camping nights unlimited.

A two-day option with lodging elsewhere is also available.

Badge/Patch Event Days for Girl Scout Juniors

These Event Days cater to small troops so they can participate in a badge program with no minimum fees required. Lincoln Caverns offers the opportunity for troops to register directly with Lincoln Caverns and participate in their choice of Junior Girl Scout Badge or Patch during their visit.

Pre-registration is required and will be accepted on a first-come/first-serve basis. Recieve information packet by signing up in our Scout Leader Area or register online for the program of your choice through our Events Calendar.

  • March 30, 2019:  Girl Scout Brownie Going Batty Patch or Junior Animal Habitats Badge Event Day
  • May 18, 2019: Choice of Girl Scout Brownie Letterboxer Badge or Junior Geocacher Badge Event Day
