Girl Scout Junior Combo - Going Batty & Geocacher Badges
Fly into summer vacation by learning about our nocturnal friends and engaging in the new sport of geocaching!
Go Batty with us this spring, learning about geocaching and bats at the same time. Meet the requirements to earn two badges - Geocacher & Going Batty (courtesy of Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois). During your fun-filled visit, learn to use geo-slang, track a Travel Bug, make trade items, and go on a scout themed geocaching hunt. Girls will also learn how to use a GPS unit and find coordinates. Learn about the importance of bats in ecosystems where they live. Play a game, create a poster, and make a craft that will help remind scouts and others, to be good neighbors to bats everywhere. Each troop will build a bat house to put up in their community. This event includes a presentation about cave conservation, cave animals, and cavern formation. The highlight of your trip will be touring TWO beautiful crystal caverns. Sleeping accommodations are slumber party style in the visitor's center. Pre-registration is required and payment in full is due with registration.
