Boy Scout Geology & Mammal Study Winter Camporee
Come out of hibernation!
Explore two realms of study important to caves - geology and bats! Saturday, work toward earning the Mammal Study Merit Badge. Discuss the importance of bats in the mammal world and to the ecosystems they live in, learn about bat families and species, and each troop builds a bat house to put up in their community. Saturday evening, engage in a pre-tour presentation about cave conservation, cave formation, and cave life. Then descend into the cave for an evening flashlight tour, through two beautiful crystal caverns. On Sunday, rotate your thinking towards geology - each boy will put together their own rock & mineral collections, learn to identify fossils with a collection to take home, while discussing earth history and mining and mineral resources. Includes two nights indoor lodging, lunch both days, rock & mineral collection, fossil collection, a bat house for each troop, and flashlight cavern tours. One day/one night options available. Pre-registration is required. For more information about this event and other scout programs, please visit our Scout Leader Area.
